Paul McCartney backed Rage Against The Machine

Dec 12, 2009
Sir Paul McCartney expressed his support to the Killing In The Name campaign organized by Rage Against The Machine’s fans. Ex-The Beatles’ member said it would be «kind of funny» if the band will get Christmas Number One slot in the UK Singles Chart.

«I like the idea of this Rage Against The Machine thing that's happening. I think that's kind of interesting», said he.

The campaign was launched this month – its goal is to take Rage Against The Machine’s single Killing In The Name on the first place in UK Christmas Singles Chart. Organizers protest against commercialization of the music industry and do not want the first place to go to the next winner of popular TV show The X Factor (which happens since 2005).

The campaign was already supported by such artists as Muse, The Prodigy, Foo Fighters’ Dave Grohl, Sex Pistols’ John Lydon and others. However, their opponent – Joe McElderry with the track The Climb – was also backed by several pop-singers, such as Girls Aloud’s Cheryl Cole and Leona Lewis.
