No Doubt do not try to write hit songs

No Doubt singer Gwen Stefani has revealed details about the work on the band's next studio effort. According to her words, they are trying to follow the advice that Prince once gave them – not to try writing hit songs.

"Prince once said to me: "Do you ever just try and write a hit song? You know, instead of trying to be all arty about it?" He was right", said Gwen Stefani.

She also claimed she could not tell if all songs on the album have one idea in common. "We wish we were good enough to craft it and have a vision, but our songwriting process is sort of desperate – we're just praying that something comes out", said she.

According to Gwen Stefani, the album is being recorded in collaboration with producer Mark Stent, who worked with Madonna, Depeche Mode, Muse and many others.

"It's so exciting to have a record coming out. And we all want the same thing: for it to be modern and catchy and addictive. Once you make music that connects with people, it's like you taste blood – you can't go back", said singer.

No Doubt's previous studio album Rock Steady hit the stores in 2001.
