Nine Inch Nails joined Arizona boycott

Jun 06, 2010
Nine Inch Nails, My Morning Jacket and Gogol Bordello have joined the list of musicians who promised not to perform in Arizona. The campaign to boycott state was launched in the beginning of June by Rage Against The Machine frontman Zack de la Rocha. It was started as a respond to the new controversial immigration law that passed in the state this spring.

New bid, named SB 1070, allows policemen to challenge each person they suspect of being an illegal immigrant. Those who can not prove their status will be arrested and put into jail.

The list of artists who joined the boycott features System Of A Down frontman Serj Tankian, Kanye West, Sonic Youth, Cypress Hill, Maroon 5, Massive Attack and a huge number of other artists. All of them promised not to perform in Arizona until the law is canceled.

Speaking about the boycott, Zack de la Rocha said: «Some of us grew up dealing with racial profiling, but this law takes it to a whole new low. If other states follow the direction of the Arizona government, we could be headed towards a pre-civil rights era reality. This unjust law was set into motion by the same Arizona government that refused to acknowledge Martin Luther King Jr day as a national holiday».
