Magic Johnson said Michael Jackson was his idol
Jul 07, 2009Famous basketball stars Magic Johnson and Kobe Bryant paid tribute to Michael Jackson at his memorial service yesterday, on June 7. For instance, Magic Johnson – a good friend of late singer’s family – claimed that Michael Jackson’s music helped him «to become the best point guard in NBA and brought an inspiration for the game».
«He was my idol, he was everything to me. He opened doors for us», said Johnson. He also recalled that Jackson asked him to shoot in his music video for the song Remember The Time. «I didn't believe it was Jackson himself on the phone», claimed player.
Kobe Bryant, in his turn, praised Michael Jackson for his philanthropic work. «Michael cared deeply for those in need. He broke Guinness World Records for most charities supported by a pop star», said Bryant.
The ceremony itself took place at the Staples Center in Los Angeles. It featured a number of music celebrities, such as Stevie Wonder, Mariah Carey, Jennifer Hudson, Usher and others.
