Madonna feels «glad» with Malawian court decision
Jun 06, 2009Madonna said she felt «glad and ecstatic» about the decision of Malawian Supreme Court of Appeal which has given Madonna a permission to adopt a second child from this country, girl Mercy James, aged 4. Judges overturned an earlier ruling by a lower court which denied adoption bid because Madonna has not been a resident in this country for long enough – according to the Malawian laws, a person should live in Malawi for at least 18 months before adopting a child.
«In our view, James is better taken care of by being adopted by foreign parents who will give her love and affection», said Malawian chief justice Lovemore Munlo.
This law was also neglected in 2006, when Madonna adopted her first Malawian child, a boy named David.
Madonna was not present at the ruling herself – she is currently on a Sticky & Sweet world tour in support of her recent Hard Candy album. The singer also announced the release of a Greatest Hits compilation.
