Lou Reed and Metallica to release joint album

Aug 08, 2011
Lou Reed announced that he has recorded an album together with the members of Metallica. Singer did not reveal its name, but promised that it would hit the stores in the UK on October 31 and in the US on November 1.

According to Lou Reed, the record consists of the covers on the songs he has written for the musical Lulu, which is based on the plays by German writer Frank Wedekind.

Speaking about the album, Lou Reed said: "It maybe the best thing done by anyone, ever. It could create another planetary system. I'm not joking, and I'm not being egotistical".

In the beginning of the year Metallica guitarist Kirk Hammett claimed that the band would make a "surprise" for their fans this spring. In May they will spend two weeks on recording new material – however, it has nothing to do with their next studio album.

Metallica's last album Death Magnetic hit the stores in 2008. Last autumn the band released new live EP. Titled Six Feet Down Under, it featured tracks recorded during the band's gigs in Australia from 1989 up to 2004.
