Linkin Park new album was influenced by Public Enemy
Sep 09, 2010Linkin Park revealed that their upcoming album A Thousand Suns was deeply influenced by Public Enemy. Frontman Mike Shinoda claimed that one of the songs from the record would feature direct reference to famous hip-hop band.
"I reference them in the song Wretches And Kings, there is a homage to lead rapper Chuck D on there. It's probably the most hip-hop song on the record and one of the most aggressive, but it feels like nothing I've ever heard before", said he.
Mike Shinoda added that Public Enemy were the first band he watched live and that their music always inspired him.
He claimed: "Public Enemy were very three-dimensional with their records because although they seemed political, there was a whole lot of other stuff going on in there too. It made me think how three-dimensional I wanted our records to be without imitating them of course, and show where we were at creatively".
Linkin Park released their last album Minutes To Midnight in 2007.
