Jay-Z’s musical was premiered

New musical Fela! has been premiered last night, November 25, on Broadway. It was partly produced by Jay-Z and famous actor Will Smith. The play is devoted to the late Nigerian multi-instrumentalist Fela Kuti, who is known as the founder of afrobeat genre. Also famous for his political activism, Kuti died in 1997.

Jay-Z claimed that he has decided to work on musical because he had been inspired by Fela Kuti's life. «Here's a guy that's on the other side of the world who was influenced by James Brown, who takes this thing and makes his own sort of genre of music. I just think it's fascinating», said rapper.

There are rumors that Jay-Z is also the main investor for the production, although they were not yet confirmed by rapper himself.

Jay-Z is currently on tour in support of his recently released album The Blueprint 3. He is also set to release compilation album The Blueprint Trilogy later this year.
