Jay-Z revealed new details about The Blueprint 3

Jul 07, 2009
Jay-Z claimed that he has decided to remove all traces of using an auto-tune from his upcoming album The Blueprint 3. According to rappers words, this producing instrument – which uses a phase vocoder to correct pitch in vocal – has become too popular.

«In hip-hop, our job is once a trend becomes a gimmick, to get rid of it. Now people are using auto-tune even in fast food chain Wendy's commercials», said rapper, whose first single from The Blueprint 3 is titled D.O.A. (Death Of Auto-Tune).

Jay-Z also pointed that it was Kanye West, the producer of The Blueprint 3, who inspired him to stop using auto-tune: «He actually sparked the idea. When he heard the beat he said, «This has to be against everything - no auto-tune, none of that type of stuff». He didn't know what I was going to do or where I was going to take it, but it was actually his fault».

However, Kanye West’s last album 808s And Heartbreak, released in November 2008, used auto-tune heavily.
