Jack White revealed the reason of The White Stripes' split-up

Jack White explained why he and his former partner Meg White have decided to announce The White Stripes' split-up. According to the singer, they were not sure about the band's future, and got tired of people asking about their plans.

"People say: "Why didn't you do this? Why didn't you do that?" Or: "Don't you owe something to somebody, or to yourselves?" All those questions", claimed he.

Jack White added: "That line was the idea of explaining to them that at a certain point as an artist, you paint your painting, you do your sculpture or your music, and you release it into the world. You don't own it anymore. You have no control over it. You put it out there to share with other people. You can only hope for the best".

In February Jack and Meg White revealed that they have made a decision not to work together any more. An announcement about the The White Stripes' split-up was posted on the band's official website, claiming that there would be "no further new recordings or performing live".

"The reason is not due to artistic differences or lack of wanting to continue, nor any health issues as both Meg and Jack White are feeling fine and in good health. It is a mix of a lot different reasons", says the statement.

The White Stripes formed in 1997 and released six studio albums – The White Stripes (1999), De Stijl (2000), White Blood Cells (2001), Elephant (2003), Get Behind Me Satan (2005) and Icky Thump (2007).
