«Hip-hop birthplace» was sold

Sep 09, 2008
A tower block in New York that is considered to be «birthplace of hip-hop» was sold on September 29. In August 1973 DJ Kool Herc held a house party there. Historians of hip-hop believe that an early form of the genre was shown at this event.

Kool Herc has filled a lawsuit to «save» building, but his lawsuit was dismissed. He was also offered to buy it for $14 million, but he managed to raise only around $11.5 million. Currently Kool Herc is asking different hip-hop artists, such as P. Diddy, 50 Cent and Jay-Z, to help him.
