Coldplay offered to write London Olympics anthem

Apr 04, 2011
Organizers of upcoming London 2012 Olympics have suggested Chris Martin and Coldplay to write an official anthem of the event. Muse and Blur frontman Damon Albarn were offered to join them in their effort.

"Chris Martin is at the top of the list to front the official record. We're pulling out all the stops to get Chris, ideally with the rest of Coldplay involved too. We also want Muse and Damon Albarn to assist them", says the official statement by organizers.

The authors of the anthem will perform the song at the opening ceremony next summer.

Coldplay recently revealed that their upcoming studio effort is "nearly finished". They also pointed that they had finally developed the sound they consider the best for the new record – although it took a lot of time to find it.

The statement on the band's official blog says: "Back in the studio, the songs are now very much pushing their heads above the soil and straining towards the light".

Coldplay's previous album Viva La Vida Or Death And All His Friends hit the stores in 2008.
