Alicia Keys explained what her stage name means

Alicia Keys (born Alicia J. Augello-Cook), who has released a new album titled As I Am, told journalists about her stage name origins. According to singer’s words, if it were not for her mother, it could be rather different. She said that when she was trying to choose a proper name she just searched through a dictionary and choose the word «wild».

Then singers asked her mother how Alicia Wild sounded to her. «She said «It sounds like you're a stripper»»,Keys said. And so Alicia decided to use Keys. «It's like the piano keys. And it can open so many doors», said the singer.
