A play about Sid Vicious and Kurt Cobain was premiered in London
Sep 09, 2009The new play Kurt And Sid, devoted to Sex Pistols’ Sid Vicious and Nirvana’s Kurt Cobain, was premiered in London yesterday, on September 10. Based on the Roy Smiles’ novel of the same name, it shows two late rockers meeting each other just before Kurt Cobain’s suicide and discussing different things.
Sid Vicious is being portrayed by famous British actor Danny Dyer, known for such films as Mean Machine, The Business and Doghouse. However, Dyer claimed that he could not understand the reasons of Sid Vicious’ popularity. «What could Sid do? Jump around and cut himself? He became the biggest thing in the Pistols. People would come just to see him, but why? What was it about this guy? He was talentless really», claimed Dyer.
He also criticized the way Gary Oldman portrayed Sid Vicious in 1986’s film Sid And Nancy by Alex Cox. «I don't like what Oldman did with him, I think he played him like an idiot and I don't think that's fair», said he.
