The White Stripes
Biography
Before the formation of The White Stripes, Jack White, whose real name is John Gillis, played in such commands of Detroit as The Go, Goober And The Peas and Upholsterers. However, when he met Meg, he liked her drumming so much that he founded The White Stripes in 1997. The band recorded the self-titled album in 1999 for only two weeks and caught the attention of the public with the unusual sound and powerful energy. In 2000, The White Stripes strengthened their status of garage rock heroes with the De Stijl album, called so in honor of the Dutch architecture movement - they also noted that they used this style, creating their musical image. The duo is famous for being possessed by white, red and black colors that are overwhelming in Meg and Jack's scene clothing.
In 2001, the band released their gorgeous album White Blood Cells with the brilliant rock single Fell In Love With A Girl - the music video for the song was shot by French director Michel Gondry. In 2003, a full-length Elephant was released. Jack and Meg recorded it on the vintage equipment of 60's, which filled the sound with peculiar charm and originality. Smash hits Seven Nation Army and The Hardest Button To Button, which were made with the use of bass (for the first time by The White Stripes) were cheerfully accepted with by the audience, the latter having got the Grammy. The same year, Jack and Meg appeared in the film Coffee And Cigarettes by Jim Jarmusch, the episode featured the band's music. The audience pondered over the question, which relations connected Jack and Meg. They called themselves brother and sister at the concerts. However, Jack put out into the Internet the document, stating that he and Meg married in 1996 and divorced in 2000.
Nevertheless, the musicians still call themselves the siblings. They explain their behavior in the following way: this type of relations lets the listeners accentuated their attention at the music, not at the personal life of the artists. Later, Jack married for the second time - to English supermodel Karen Elson. In 2006, the new album by The White Stripes, titled Get Behind Me Satan, saw light with the hits Blue Orchid and My Doorbell - the collective got the Grammy for this work. On Get Behind Me Satan the musicians widened their musical palette, changing the guitar with the piano and adding disco elements and digital mastering of the tracks. In the same 2006, Jack performed as the lead vocalist of the pop-rock command The Raconteurs on their debut Broken Boy Soldiers. Later the same year, Jack White released the solo album with the avant-garde orchestration, titled Aluminium - the disc had limited edition. In 2007, the garage rock duet issued their next long-play Icky Thump with the eponymous lead single. Icky Thump proved to be an excellent experimental album with the stylish garage rock sounding of 70's. In 2010 The White Stripes released their first live album titled Under Great White Northern Lights, which had been recorded during the band's tour in Canada.
