The Cars

American New Wave band The Cars was formed in the second half of seventies in Boston. Since the very beginning the musicians managed to attract attention to them due to an incredibly powerful sound: guitar parts were mixed with synthesizer parts in quite an original way. However The Cars cannot be called pioneers of a new genre. But, taking into account the fact of the new musical wave becoming more popular at these years, The Cars found themselves at the right place at proper time.

The Cars’ debut self-titled record saw the light in 1978. The rockers’ very first attempt was really enjoyed by listeners and critics gave it fair reviews as well. The album The Cars proved to be successful and tracks Good Times Roll, Bye Bye Love and many others became permanent members of broadcasts all over the world. Experts stated that The Cars was a genius album, but the musicians joked that it was even bigger, that it was their greatest hits compilation. Well, many a true word is spoken in jest – nowadays that long play is considered to be classics of New Wave, and its songs still can be often heard on numerous radio stations.

A year later the rockers issued their second studio long play Candy-O (1979), which proved to be not less interesting and original. The musicians were obliged to Alberto Vargas for the incredibly bright and notable cover, who specialized on pin-up style. At the moment the record was about to be released, Vargas was already retired, but his niece, a great fan of The Cars, asked him to prepare that cover. Thereby he created that amazing piece of art. Another year passed, and the rockers’ discography was enlarged by the long play Panorama (1980), which was followed by fourth studio attempt Shake It Up (1981). In 1984 one of the band’s most successful works was issued - Heartbeat City. Compositions You Might Think, Magic, Hello Again and others proved to be much loved by listeners and became hits. Moreover, videos for Drive and Hello Again were quite exciting, while video for You Might Think even brought the band an award in the category Video Of The Year at the very first MTV Video Music Awards in 1984. Three years later the musicians pleased their fans by releasing the new long play Door To Door (1987), and in 1988 they stated about the group’s disbandment.
