Scissor Sisters

Biography

American band Scissor Sisters was formed in New York in 2001. The band’s music gained popularity very quickly, because they mixed elements of disco, glam-rock and club music in a very original way. Scissor Sisters became extremely popular in Great Britain: their debut album was the best-selling album of 2004 in the UK. The story of the band began in 2000, when Babydaddy and Jake Shears met. They started to play music together and pretty soon the musicians moved to New York. They got acquainted with Ana Matronic and the trio began to perform. Del Marquis joined the band later and then Scissor Sisters placed an advertisement in order to find a drummer. Before they found him, Scissor Sisters had used a drum-machine in many songs and even recorded a part of their first album with that. Soon Paddy Boom became the member of the band, but in 2007 he was replaced by Randy Real, who joined the group during Kiss You Off tour.

The band was complete and the musicians signed to the independent label A Touch of Class. Scissor Sisters started to work on their material and in 2002 the first single Electrobix from the debut demo album was released. That record included the cover version of legendary Pink Floyd’s Comfortably Numb. Scissor Sisters’ variant of that composition was often played in different clubs of Great Britain and it attracted attention to the band. Later the label called Polydor offered them a contract and Scissor Sisters signed it. Their first studio work titled Scissor Sisters was released in 2004 and it debuted at the first places of Great Britain and Irish charts. The record turned out to be very strong and it was the best selling album in the UK in 2004. Scissor Sisters was certified 7x Platinum and in Great Britain more than 2,500,000 copies were sold. In 2005 the musicians won the deserved award in the nomination Best International Album at the Brit Awards.

In 2006 Scissor Sisters released the second album Ta-Dah. During the recording their dream came true: the composition I Don't Feel Like Dancin was created jointly with Elton John. Later that song peaked at number 1 of the UK chart and it became one of the band’s biggest hits. The same year Scissor Sisters performed on one stage with Depeche Mode during the Touring the Angel, and the band’s show at KOKO Club was recorded for MTV.

Third studio album titled Night Work was issued in 2010. By that time Scissor Sisters gained a huge fan base due to their bright image and music including elements of psychedelia, glam rock and disco. That kind of musical cocktail was enjoyed by the music lovers all over the world, and Night Work attracted attention in no time. Scissor Sisters’ talent and professionalism guarantee the interesting sound and positive emotions.
