I'm With You review

They’re with us again!

The longest intermission between studio records in the Red Hot Chili Peppers is finally over, congratulations! After releasing the huge Stadium Arcadium CD in the remote 2006, the winners of many titles took a long break. And when guitarist John Frusciante once again left his colleagues, even fans with stronger nerves felt uneasiness all over themselves. Time shows that there was no reason to panic. Finding the replacement took some time, but the new man was the right man, Josh Klinghoffer. He was not going to copy the predecessor’s play, and was not supposed to, either. Josh has his own inspirers, technique and views on music craft. Once the lineup was complete again, the band got down to preparing the new record, marking the respectable number ten. An excellent single, The Adventures Of Rain Dance Maggie, proved that the formation never forgot what kind of music they were supposed to offer to leave the audience satisfied. So, the Chilis are OK. Red Hot Chili Peppers are again with us and say hello, sending their best regards with the album that has the right title, I’m With You.

Red Hot Chili Peppers still remember what and how to play

While preparing I’m With You, Red Hot Chili Peppers did not choose to beat the record of Stadium Arcadium, recoding a three-hour piece, but confined themselves to making fourteen songs amounting to one hour. Klinghoffer plays as if he was prophesized to join the band when he was a little boy. At the same time, his manner is not so much about the complexity, enjoyed by Frusciante, but rather emotions extracted from each note played. And what did the other guys from the Chilis do on the album? Unlike Josh, they did have to prove anything to anyone. However, somebody may be surprised to hear them play with enthusiasm and vigor so long unheard from them. At first, Red Hot Chili Peppers decided to remind us they play rock in the most direct meaning of the word. The storm predicting Monarchy Of Roses gives way to the energetic Factory Of Faith, featuring those food old Red Hot Chili Peppers who have always been capable of making a hot track. And then, probably a little early, comes a lyrical moment, an amazing moment! A ballad called Brendan’s Death Song, a tribute to the band’s prematurely departed friend, claims the title of the group’s best slow song ever, thank to Anthony Kiedis’ unearthly vocals. Ethiopia displays unsurpassed performance by the rhythm section men, and already after the first four songs of You’re With Me, we can not worry about the shape of the musicians.

Bringing back the golden past moments

The second part of I’m With You is a merry genre game arranged by Red Hot Chili Peppers. Did I Let You Know confidently steps into the blues area to the sounds of trumpet. Police Station apples piano that becomes the song’s leading instrument. The record is concluded with a dance track called Dance, Dance, Dance, a bold and effective touch. To cut it short, Red Hot Chili Peppers seem to have come back to what they used to be twenty years ago, when they experienced a most exciting time for any talented performer, time of creative search. We are not speaking about the sort of music they played then and they play now, but about what they feel when playing. Any track off I’m With You is an outburst of emotions, a blow of positive energy right at the listener. It feels like the musicians enjoyed the making of the album the way they have not since time immemorial. Nothing in the music of I’m With You betrays the age of the Red Hot Chili Peppers members, neither is there a single trace of exhaustion, apathy or indifference. This is one amazing rock album to close the summer season from the giants of the genre.
