Australian drum and bass band Pendulum was formed in 2002. The band is famous for its strong sound, which includes elements of dubstep, heavy metal and electro house. The debut single Vault was released in 2003 and it was followed by other songs, and Ulterior Motive was one of them. Later many of these compositions were included into the band’s debut album. Hold Your Colour was released in 2005 and was mainly the drum and bass record. Hold Your Colour was acclaimed by the music experts in Great Britain and Australia and it became one of the best selling drum and bass albums of all time. During the creation of the debut album, Pendulum collaborated with The Freestylers, Fats & TC and other musicians, including the Australian rock band Karnivool. Perhaps, that joint work helped them to find the unique sound and predetermined the band’s future development. Pendulum's creativity turned out to be much claimed: the composition Slam was included into the soundtrack of MotorStorm on PlayStation 3 and Dance Dance Revolution Universe on Xbox 360. Band’s song Tarantula was included into the British TV series Skins.

The second studio work titled In Silico was issued in 2008. Pendulum changed their sound and In Silico was not only the drum and bass record: the musicians added the rock and electronic elements. During the Project Rev show the members of Pendulum threw out the mini discs with their composition The Tempest. In general the band’s live performances attract a lot of attention, because the musicians think over their shows thoroughly. In addition, in order to achieve their original unique sound during the concert, they use about 17 computers which mix the sounds in real time. It is worth mentioning that three compositions from In Silico were included into Need for Speed: Undercover soundtrack. 9000 Miles, Granite and The Tempest were chosen by EA TRAX, who are well-known for their scrupulous song selection. In 2008 Pendulum performed a lot in Europe and went on their very first tour in the US. By the end of the year the musicians recorded the material for their DVD Pendulum: Live at Brixton Academy which was released in 2009. The band is also successful in cover-versions. Thus, Led Zeppelin’s Immigrant Song, Metallica’s Master of Puppets and others got absolutely new sound.

Pendulum issued their third studio work Immersion in 2010. Soon after the release they went on the tour in Great Britain. The album debuted at number one in the UK Official Top 40 charts. The musicians experiment with the style all the time, adding some new elements and richening the sound. The original drum and bass and electro were amplified with the guitars, which add some volume. Probably many heavy music fans will be interested in the composition Self vs Self, recorded jointly with the Swedish melodic death metal band In Flames. Pendulum are considered to be one of the most progressive drum and bass bands, and their sound was progressing, achieving some new elements, which create Pendulum’s unique style.
