BIO

Jet bio

Jet is an Australian band from Melbourne whose participants united their efforts in the second half of the nineties while the Jet title was taken up only in 2002. The lineup of this ensemble includes two brothers, Nic and Chris Cester, alongside Mark Wilson and Cameron Munsey. According to the recollections of the musicians, in the beginning, they did not believe they could go this far. At that time, Australia spawned a new generation of rock music lovers who were poorly familiarized with big and old bands of this genre, giving their attention to the heroes of the new age. The music, originally based on raw guitar sound and plain passages, was gradually absorbing the touches of other trends making the rock-n-roll definition hardly acceptable to it. The Jet musicians were deeply fond of classic acts of the seventies and eighties, particularly, The Who, and AC/DC, which made them reluctant to play what the contemporary fashion implied. An approach like this one promised them, at best, performances in their hometown; and getting globally famous they could only dream of.

Nevertheless, these dreams came true, although not instantly. In 2002, the Australian band issued a four-piece mini-album called Dirty Sweet. This release was followed by a streak of gigs including a performance during which the musicians were closely watched by the representatives of Elektra Records. As a result, Jet found a very respectable label and agreed on the preparations of a long player. However, before they started working on that, Jet won the chance to gig as a supporting act for The Rolling Stones during their Australian part of the global tour. The debut Jet album saw light of days in November 2003 getting named Get Born. This collection of thirteen compositions topped the Australian Rock Albums charts and entered the UK Top 20. The record sold in tremendous amounts and momentarily earned a platinum certificate. Its separate songs were released as singles and also got spotted in numerous prestigious lists. The most notable tracks of the album are Are You Gonna Be My Girl, Cold Hard Bitch, Rollover D.J., and Look What You've Done. The new album was especially warmly welcomed in Australia, the Great Britain, Canada and the USA. It is reasonable that the concerts of Jet reached since then many more places.

The promotional tour for this album took Jet a considerable period of time and kept them long from coming back to the studio. The second effort by the Australian ensemble, Shine On, arrived in 2006. The material of the new record was a perfect match to the concert shows and had a good balance between energetic noisy tracks and emotional slow-tempo ballads. In Australia, it reached the third place, while in American Billboard Top 200 it occupied the sixteenth position. Although the sales of the sophomore were a bit lower than those of the predecessor, Jet again had a commercial success. The first single from the album was Put Your Money Where Your Mouth Is, later followed by two more singles, Stand Up, and Shine On. All the three were picked up for many rock-music ratings. The third full-length record by Jet arrived in August 2009 under the title Shaka Rock.
