Aimee Anne Duffy was born in Nefyn in North Wales with her sister Katy Ann on 6 June 1984. The place where she spent her early years was a remote tiny town with no music stores and poor chances to hear music news. The girl discovered such stars like The Rolling Stones or The Beatles thank to her father’s collection of video tapes with records of popular British TV shows. Aged ten, Aimee moved to Pembrokshire with her mother after the divorce of her parents. On receiving secondary education she came back to Nefyn. When Aimee became nineteen years old she dropped off her first name and called her self just Duffy both in her personal and artistic life. Again in Nefyn, the girl started her concert activity in a row of local bands. In 2003, Duffy was invited to take part in the Welsh TV show for young talents where she was expected to win, but eventually ran second. This was the reason for her to lose faith in the bright future of her music career she had dreamt of since the early childhood.

Duffy came back to music on regular basis after meeting Bernard Butler, Suede’s ex-guitarist. This man acquired the singer with soul music and helped her find a company to work on the first album. In November 2007 she signed a contract with A&M RecordsThrough the appearances on BBC, Duffy made herself known and loved by big audience. Experts considered her an extremely talented performer to hold a leading position among young and beginning artists in the UK. It took Duffy four years to write, record and produce her long awaited debut album, Rockferry released In March 2007. Butler found her the musicians to form her band and produced four compositions featured on this long player, including the hit Rockferry running #45 in the UK charts. The next single Mercy made her the first Welsh female singer to make a umber one pop single for the last 25 years. Rockferry appeared an autobiographical album named after the place the singer’s father came from. This studio work became one of the best sellers in 2008 with over 3 million copies sold worldwide for less than a year after its release.

Duffy was honored with a number of awards for the breakthrough of the year, the best song and the best album, according to many influential organizations and magazines. In November 2008, the deluxe edition of Rockferry was released featuring the original material with four new songs, including the single Rain on Your Parade. Along with Adele and some other performers, Duffy is considered one of the most prominent representatives of the new British Invasion, a group of young UK musicians to have extreme popularity and high sales in the USA, and neo-soul singers.
