Deerhunter

Biography

American indie-rock band Deerhunter was formed in the beginning of the new Millennium in Georgia by the vocalist Bradford Cox and the drummer and keyboardist Moses Archuleta. The group’s first bassist Justin Bosworth died because of the traumas that he got while skateboarding. Thus Deerhunter were joined by Joshua Fauver, who had already played in punk-rock band Electrosleep International by that time. Justin’s death had a huge influence on his band mates: later they noted that it was extremely difficult to record the first album. After that Bradford invited his school friend Pundt to Deerhunter and that is how the current and constant line-up was formed.

The debut long play with quite an audacious title Turn It Up Faggot was released in 2005. The record was critically acclaimed and music lovers really enjoyed the interesting sound. Deerhunter devoted their first studio work to Justin Bosworth, who played a great role in the creation of the band. The following album Cryptograms, released in 2007, turned out to be difficult to record: the equipment in the studio was not working correctly and Cox’s physical and psychological conditions were not ideal as well. Nevertheless, the members of the band Liars encouraged Deerhunter to make another attempt. Album Cryptograms came out strong and it satisfied the numerous fans’ expectations and produced a great impression.

In 2008 the music lovers’ high interest in Deerhunter’s creativity was perfectly proved: due to the pirates, Microcastle (2008) leaked to the Internet before the official release. Then Deerhunter recorded another album - Weird Era Cont. (2008), however it repeated its predecessor’s destiny. One way or another, this kind of interest and the fans’ reluctance to wait for the release confirmed the highest level of musicians’ creativity.

Two years later the group’s discography was enlarged by the fourth studio attempt Halcyon Digest (2010). That long play got excellent reviews from the critics, which is not a surprise: Deerhunter managed to find their own unique style that can be hardly mixed up with someone else’s. That style allows the musicians to create without any limits or boarders, and every person will find something for himself or herself in the band’s compositions. There is absolutely no doubt that Halcyon Digest will be interesting not only for Deerhunter’s old fans, but also for all the lovers of good, original and high quality music.
